The Internet

In my opinion the internet is the greatest invention of the last 60 years for many reasons. The whole idea of the internet was mainly developed in the 1960s and early 1970s by several computer scientists. The first working prototype of the internet was created in the late 1960s and it was called the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network or also known as the ARPANET which was funded by the  U.S. Department of Defense. ARPANET used packet transferring technology in order to allow multiple computers to communicate on one single network.

But what is the internet? Internet is a global network which connects millions of computers and other devices that have access to it and allows for data transfer. Internet has had an impressive impact to our everyday life. First of all the global  communication has gone to a completely new level. Within seconds you can send an email to the other side of the globe and get a reply also a few seconds later. I believe that the market has also been improved because of electronic orders. All you have to do is enter the website of the store you want to buy from, place your order and most of the times a few days later the product that you ordered will be at your doorstep.

Have you ever thought how life would be without internet? Just imagine that, in order to communicate with someone from the other side of your country you would have to wait a longer amount of time for the letter to arrive and the response to be delivered to you. So a letter that goes to the other side of the earth could take several days to reach its destination. Thankfully there are planes designed for this job but still the communication would be slower. Another thing that would be significantly different is the reasearch of information. Now you can just open a browser and search information for most things that you can think of. Before the internet you had to search for a book or an encyclopedia regarding that matter that you want info on.

Concluding the internet is an invention that has had a huge influence in our life and I believe is the most important in the last 60 years.
